17.1     The following important issues relating to pollution control and    environmental conservation have been addressed:

i.         Ban on use of polythene of less than 20 microns in the State from 26th January, 2004

 ii.       Exemption of IT industries from taking NOC/clearance of the State Pollution Control Board  - Issue of Notifications thereof 

iii.      Declaration of IIDCO as the Nodal agency for developing a hazardous waste disposal site near Rourkela

           Conservation and Management of the Coastal area- The Orissa State Coastal Zone Management Authority, constituted by Government of India to enforce the Coastal Zone Management Plan and violations of Coastal Regulation Zone (C.R.Z) has recommended 7 nos. of developmental projects including Ports, National Highway, Air strip, crude oil pipeline, and fish landing center etc. to GOI for CRZ clearance. The Authority reviewed all cases of violations and directed the Collectors to take action against violators as per section 5 of the EP Act 1986

  Environment Education and Awareness Promotion-In order to promote awareness for environmental protection and conservation, a District Environment Society, in each district has been constituted under the Chairmanship of District Collectors. State Government have conferred 19 Prakruti Mitra and 19 Prakruti Bandhu Awards on 5th June, 2003, (the World Environment Day) to voluntary organizations/villages/institutions and to individuals respectively for encouraging people’s participation in protection of environment.
